SIINSCAE: Software Installation Is Not Software (default) Configuration And Execution.
I think this is a healthy principle. Example: you install lighttpd
(this). Then you won't have lighttpd
up and running just after its installation, and you won't need to remove it from the services run at startup time. The same if you install jetty
, or MySQL Server, or one of the other hundreds of services you could like to have and run when you need them for whatever reason. The installation software shouldn't imply you want those services to be run right now and also automatically (with a default, maybe careless configuration!) when you reboot your system.
